About Emery Greye

Emery Greye, writer, poet, and inspirational speaker, was born Rick Pitcairn, in Huntington, W.Va. in the early 1950’s. He was raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1966. Upon his graduation from High School, attended the University of Cincinnati, where he studied Business while working as a carpenters apprentice building houses. He was regional sales and project manager for Indumar, Inc., An industrial marketing and marketing research firm consulting with major corporations worldwide. Taking an 18 month leave of absence, he became a member of the Professional Bowlers Association until an injury forced his retirement. He returned to Indumar to finish his tenure and in 1985 left to start a remodeling and home maintenance/repair business, which he continues to operate to this day. He was a  firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Rossmoyne ( now Sycamore Township) Fire Department for 10 years. He coached amateur sports for 40 years. He is the father of two, the stepfather of two, and grandfather of six. He began writing in high school but found the busy life of raising a family and community involvement didn’t afford him time to pursue his writing until 1995. It was at this time he began writing poetry in an attempt to help those dealing with extream trama in their lives and to encourage them to help deal with their pain by writing their thoughts and feelings in a journal or poem. After a few years readers suggested that he publish a book of all the poems so that others might be helped.

Emery began submitting individual poems to various poetry associations and organizations and began to outline his idea for his own book. “Emery Greye and Friends” which includes pictures submitted by friends and the poetry he wrote about each. 

 Emery is a member of The Academy of American Poets, an International Member of The Federation of Canadian Poets, The Poetry Society United Kingdom, and is a contributor to the National Association of Poetry Therapy.

Emery was truly honored to have been selected as a judge for the 2015 Scholastic Writing Awards. The categories he judged were Poetry, Short Stories, and Personal Essay/Memoirs. After reading all the entries, he was excited and inspired by the quality of every entry, remarking  "It's nice to know that this next generation of talented young writers will be keeping the written word alive and moving forward! Good job all!"

For the second year, he has been selected as a Judge for the 2016 Scholastic Writing Awards.

Emery was honored to be a nominee for Poet Lauriate of CIncinnati 2016
